And, as you may know, it all starts with brushing. Sure, genetics can play a big part in your overall oral health, but at the end of the day it largely depends on the routines that you’ve set up for yourself. That’s why in today’s post we’d like to share a few tips for what you can do to get the most out of brushing your teeth. It’s something that we do every single day, so it pays to make sure you’re doing it right. To find out what you can do to improve your brushing habits, keep reading!
Are You Brushing Correctly?
In addition to ongoing preventative care, our team would also be glad to demonstrate some brushing techniques that would be beneficial to you at your next visit. But what can you start doing today? Let’s take a look.
Try Tiny Circles
Top to bottom and left to right, right? The reality is that this is still the way that many people out there are brushing.
Our advice is to think of it this way — the goal is to give each tooth a tiny massage. Rather than just going back and forth and up and down, you should make it a point to work the head of your toothbrush in small circles around each tooth. All too often, people think that the goal is just to get the teeth clean, but the truth is that you should also be massaging your gums. Trust us when we say that this is probably the biggest change you can make with the least amount of effort.
Make the Switch to Electric
Electric toothbrushes are expensive, right? While that used to be the case, the good news is that modern electric toothbrushes can be purchased for less money than ever. These inexpensive toothbrushes might just be what you need to up your oral health game.
Simply swap out the head of your electric toothbrush once every three months (or according to the directions for your specific model) and you’re good to go! Electric toothbrushes take some of the guesswork out of brushing and they are configured to automatically work themselves into the small circles we mentioned above, making them a win/win.
Perhaps best of all is the fact that many of these toothbrushes come with a built in timer reminding you to brush for the full two minutes that are recommended. Some toothbrushes even vibrate every thirty seconds so you can switch quadrants without having to time it out for yourself. Either way, having an electric toothbrush might just be the perfect thing for your daily oral health routine. If you’d like a recommendation from us, be sure to ask while you’re in for your next visit?
Don’t Be Afraid to Get New Toothpaste
Are you the type of person that buys the same toothpaste every single time you’re in need of a new tube? Whether it’s Crest 3D White, Colgate Total, or something else, many people find a toothpaste that they like and then stick with it for as long as possible.
We’ll be the first to admit that whatever toothpaste you use is probably doing the trick, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to try something new. For example, if you’ve been wanting to supplement our teeth whitening services, you could opt for a teeth whitening toothpaste. Have sensitive teeth? Make the switch to a toothpaste that is designed to help.
Can you be absolutely certain that a new toothpaste is just what you need? Perhaps not, but it’s worth a try — and who knows? You might just find a new favorite!
